DUBAI, July 21, 2009: Football enthusiasts in the Middle East and North African (MENA) region have a rare treat in store for them when Al Ittihad, the highly popular Premier League champions of Saudi Arabian football, face-off against European giants Real Madrid at 20.30 hours GMT on July 26 in a group match of the Peace Cup 2009 tournament. The exciting action of this eagerly anticipated clash will be brought live from Madrid on ART Prime Sport & ART Sport to all Pehla Gold, Pehla Silver and Firstnet Premium subscribers, according to an announcement by Arab Digital Distribution, the largest pay television platform management company in the MENA region.

This is the first time that the tournament, organized in 2003, is being held outside South Korea. Originally featuring eight teams in the earlier three editions, the 2009 version has been upgraded to 12 teams in four groups who will play their group matches from July 24 to July 29 at five venues (Seville, Malaga, Jerez, Huelva, Madrid) in Andalusia and Madrid in Spain, with the winners of Group A and B facing off in the first semi-final at Seville at 20.30 hours GMT and the winners of Group C and D battling each other in the second semi-final at Malaga at 18.30 hours GMT on July 31. The final will be played at Seville at 20.00 hours GMT on August 2.

According to ADD, all matches in the tournament, beginning with the Sevilla vs Juventas clash in Seville and the Liga de Quito vs Al Ittihad face-off in Jerez on July 24, will be exclusively broadcast live.

The 12 participating teams this year come from eight countries - Spain, Italy, South Korea, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, England, Mexico, France, Turkey and Portugal include teams like Sevilla, Juventus and Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma, Real Madrid, Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito (LDU Quito), Al-Ittihad, Malaga, Aston Villa, Atlante, Olympique Lyonnais (Lyon), Besiktas, divided into 4 groups.

GROUP A  Sevilla FC, Juventus, Seongnam
GROUP B  Real Madrid, Liga de Quito, Al-Ittihad
GROUP C  Malaga, Aston Villa , Atlante
GROUP D  Lyon, Besiktas, FC Porto

The winners get a prize of Euros 2 million while the runners up take home Euros 1 million. All proceeds raised from the event will go to a diverse range of good causes. In fact, most of the teams that have participated in the tournament over the years have seen it as part of their contribution to a worthy cause – world peace, giving a boost to the thesis that sport is one of the greatest forces binding nations together for global peace.

The point of interest in the fourth edition is whether Florentino Perez will succeed in weaving his expensive additions into a winning combination for Real Madrid or whether Juventus, the first Italian club to participate in the tournament, French champions Lyon, 2008 Copa Libertadores surprise winners Liga de Quito, 23 times winner of the Portuguese league FC Porto, former European Cup winners Aston Villa of England or compatriot Spanish club Sevilla show the world that money may not be all that matters in football.
