UAE, February 19, 2007: The battle for the one of the most prestigious trophies in world football returns. The European Champions League resumes this Tuesday with the knockout stages of the tournament. Sixteen teams are left from the group stages and will take part in a two-legged, home-and-away series.

When Liverpool opens its two-leg series against Barcelona on the coming Wednesday, it will be a battle of the winners of the last two editions of the Champions League. Liverpool defeated AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League final and Barcelona hoisted the trophy after beating Arsenal in the 2006 final. And with the numerous transfers that have occurred in the off-season, the power equations might change dramatically this time around. Can Barcelona live up to their billing as favourites against a resurgent Liverpool? Catch Follow this epic clash live only on Firstnet.

The match which will see Steven Gerrard pit his wits against Ronaldinho is an exciting one-one-one and Liverpool will be hoping to get a good result here to take back to the second leg at Anfield. The Reds actually beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp in the UEFA Cup semi-final in 1976 and in doing so became the first and so far only English team to win at the famous stadium.

Liverpool last played at the Nou Camp in the Champions League in March 2002 when the match ended up in a goalless draw. Barcelona had won the previous game 3-1 against Gerard Houlliers Liverpool team.

Though Liverpool v Barcelona is not a traditional derby, but these two teams from the Northeast of England and Spain have dominated Champions League. And unlike other rivalries that are thinly disguised excuses for religious tribalism (Celtic v Rangers) or political or nationalistic fervor (Barca v Real), this rivalry is just about two soccer powerhouses that focus on the soccer. No religious bigotry or nationalism here... just two proud clubs from two proud cities that play a particularly European brand of football: hard nosed defense and gorgeous goals.
